How to Choose Baby Clothes - Part 1

-- Textile experts who have been in the industry for 28 years tell you a simple method of judging

Whether it is home textile products or clothing products on the market, there is a type of cotton; but what many manufacturers, distributors and retailers will not tell you is the quality of the cotton yarn they use. Many consumers also don't know that there are grades of raw materials for the same cotton products.

First of all, cotton products include pure cotton, blended, and interwoven; most of these can be read from the product's ingredient logo. 100% cotton, 95% cotton + 5% functional raw materials (the most commonly used is Lycra to increase the elasticity of the fabric); blending - blending cotton and blended raw materials into yarns in proportion during the spinning process (the most common TC Yarn 65% polyester + 35% cotton; TC yarn 50% polyester + 50% cotton; CVC yarn 20% polyester + 80% cotton); interwoven products - pure cotton yarn and pure polyester yarn (or other yarns such as linen yarn, acrylic In the weaving process of fabric products, radial yarn, weft yarn or loop yarn determines the proportion of finished fabric.

Today we will give a detailed introduction to pure cotton products.
The same pure cotton product marked 100% cotton is the information you can see on the ingredient label; but it is difficult for consumers to judge what grade of cotton and cotton yarn the specific product uses.
Home textile products (sheets, quilt covers, pillowcases) are mostly woven products, and the specifications of fabric products are based on the number of yarns per square inch (for example, 50sX50s/144x80 means that both warp and weft directions are 50s pure cotton yarns per square inch. 224 yarns; 40sX40s/110x90 or 32sX32s/130x70 means that the warp and weft directions are 40s or 32s pure cotton yarns with 200 yarns per square inch; 20sX20s/68x68 means that the warp and weft directions are 20s pure cotton yarns per square inch There are 136 yarns per square inch), so home textile products can basically judge the quality of raw materials based on the number of yarns per square inch; 224 yarns per square inch are the best, 200 yarns per square inch are in the middle, and ordinary yarns per square inch 136 yarns. Of course, if the twill weave is used in the weaving of more product fabrics, a more complicated judgment method is required. The higher the count, the better the quality of cotton yarn. Cotton yarn with the same count can also be divided into carded and combed. Combed cotton yarn has longer and better fibers. 40s, 40TK combed or 50s & 50TK combed are mostly used for high-end bedding fabrics and shirts.
The pure cotton yarn used in knitted garments is also divided into carded and combed as well as yarn thickness and count grades. Because most of the knitting and weaving circular machines are the same but the diameters of the circular machines are different, the simple judgment of the yarn thickness can also be roughly judged from the square gram weight of the fabric. Take interlock as an example
16 sticks - 220-235gsm
21 sticks - 210-220gsm
32 count - 200-210gsm; if two 32 count yarns are fed into the loom at the same time, it can also reach about 230gsm
40 sticks - 190-200gsm
50 sticks - 160-175gsm
The higher the yarn count, the better the quality of cotton yarn, and the same yarn count is better than ordinary yarn combing. The higher the yarn count and the longer the fibers of the combed cotton yarn, the better the evenness of the yarn and the lower the hairiness of the yarn.

We will continue to introduce in detail how to judge the quality of knitted garments in the next article.
